Mick Maher
A Marist Champion
and a Gentle Man
Sadly we have to report the passing of Mick Maher on Monday 27th July. Mick was a well respected member of the "Bears". As a Mosman junior Mick played with Ken Irvine in his junior days before coming to grade in the late 50's. In a very successful career Mick went on to play 125 first grade games with the bears in his 221 appearances in the red and black.
Mick was a great fullback and after his playing career had ended spent time on the committee of the club. Nothing was ever a problem for Mick and his sensible, caring approach to life and his never ending passion for the bears made him many friends.
A true gentleman people who knew Mick will tell you that they never heard anyone have a bad word to say about him. He will be sorely missed by us all. His funeral was held at the Naremburn Catholic Church at 10.00 am on Friday 31st July 2009.
